Preparation for Ward Rounds
Procedure
- Confirm the time of the round and which team is attending.
- Complete all observations, charts and treatments before the round begins.
- Ensure every folder is complete with notes, charts, laboratory results and imaging filed in order.
- Tidy the ward, screen beds and ensure patients are clean, comfortable and appropriately dressed.
- Ensure patients have used the toilet before the round starts.
- Prepare the trolley: stethoscope, torch, tongue depressor, gloves, tape measure, sterile packs and hand rub.
- Bring the round trolley with the treatment book, referral forms and request forms.
- Accompany the team, present each patient concisely and take notes of every instruction.
- Ensure privacy and translate for the patient where needed.
- After the round, transcribe orders promptly, prioritise them, and hand over what remains outstanding.
