Assisted Bathroom Bath
Procedure
- Assess mobility, balance, dizziness and any restrictions such as a wound, cast or cannula.
- Check the bathroom is clean, dry, warm and has a non-slip mat and a working call bell.
- Take soap, towel, clean clothing and a chair or stool to the bathroom before moving the patient.
- Assist the patient to the bathroom using the correct aid and safe moving technique.
- Test the water temperature yourself and let the patient confirm it is comfortable.
- Cover any wound or cannula with a waterproof protector.
- Stay within call and check every few minutes without invading privacy.
- Assist with drying, dressing and returning to the bed or chair, and observe for exhaustion or dizziness.
- Leave the bathroom clean, wash hands and record how the patient tolerated the bath.
