NurseJoe is a revision app for nursing and midwifery students, run by CareBridgeTech. This page explains exactly what we collect, who processes it, how long we keep it, and how you delete it. It covers both the website at nursejoe.org and the Ask NurseJoe AI browser extension.
The short version. We collect your name, email address and profile picture when you sign in with Google, plus the study progress you create by using the app. We use it to run your account and nothing else. There is no advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking pixels anywhere in NurseJoe, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
1. What we collect
When you sign in
NurseJoe uses Google sign-in, handled by Firebase Authentication. Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. Nothing else is requested, and your Google password is never seen by NurseJoe.
While you study
- Study progress — the questions you have answered, your scores, streaks and bookmarks. This is kept on your device, and synced to your account so it survives a new phone.
- Reports and feedback you choose to send with "Report a problem", including what you typed and which item it was about.
- Notification preference — whether you asked for study reminders, and if you enabled push notifications, the token your browser issues for them.
When you pay
Payments are processed by Paystack. Your card number, CVV and PIN are entered on Paystack's own secure form and are never seen, handled or stored by NurseJoe. We receive only a confirmation that a payment succeeded, its reference, and the amount, so we can unlock your subscription and email you a receipt.
When you use Ask NurseJoe AI
The text you select or type is sent to NurseJoe's own server, which asks Google's Gemini API to produce the explanation and sends it back to you. We record that a request happened, so that the free daily allowance can be counted. See section 5 for how this works in the browser extension.
2. What we use it for
- To sign you in and keep you signed in.
- To save your progress and show it back to you.
- To apply your free daily allowance, or your subscription if you have one.
- To send you a receipt after a payment, and study reminders if you turned them on.
- To answer a problem you reported, and fix the content you reported.
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, we do not share it for anyone else's marketing, and we do not use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
3. Who processes it
We use these services to run NurseJoe. Each handles data only on our instructions.
| Service | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication & Cloud Firestore (Google LLC) | Sign-in, your profile, your synced progress |
| Firebase Hosting (Google LLC) | Serving the website |
| Cloudflare Workers | NurseJoe's own API — allowances, payments, AI requests |
| Google Gemini API | Generating explanations from the text you send to Ask NurseJoe |
| Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google LLC) | Push notifications, if you enable them |
| Paystack | Card and mobile-money payments |
| Resend | Sending receipts and study reminder emails |
These providers operate servers outside Ghana, so your data is transferred and processed abroad. Processing follows applicable data protection law.
4. How long we keep it, and how to delete it
We keep your account and progress for as long as your account exists. You are in control of it:
- Sign out at any time from Profile → Settings.
- Delete everything from Profile → Settings. This removes your progress.
- To have your account and all associated records deleted entirely, email hello@nursejoe.org from the address you signed in with, and we will action it.
Payment records are kept for as long as accounting obligations require.
5. The Ask NurseJoe AI browser extension
The extension is a study tool: you highlight a question on a page, right-click "Ask NurseJoe AI about this", and it explains the reasoning in a side panel. It is deliberately built so that it cannot simply hand you the answer.
- It only ever sees what you deliberately send it. Text leaves your browser only when you select it and choose the right-click item, or type it into the panel yourself. The extension does not read pages in the background and does not collect your browsing history.
- That text goes to one place. NurseJoe's own server, which calls the Google Gemini API to produce the explanation. No other service receives it.
- What it stores on your computer. Your NurseJoe sign-in token and your chosen study mode, kept in the browser's local extension storage so you do not have to reconnect every time. The extension itself stores nothing on our servers.
- Where it runs. Its content script runs only on NurseJoe's own domains, and does one thing: hand your session to the extension when you click "Connect the extension". It does not run on any other website.
- No remote code. All of the extension's code ships inside the package.
Removing the extension from your browser deletes everything it stored locally.
6. Children
NurseJoe is made for nursing and midwifery students and qualified nurses in tertiary education or practice. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
7. Educational disclaimer
NurseJoe supports studying and examination preparation. It is not a clinical reference and it is not medical advice. It does not replace your institution's policies, your clinical supervision, current national or NMC guidance, or your own professional judgement. Ask NurseJoe does not give drug doses, diagnoses or treatment decisions.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or who processes it, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also appear in the app's update notices.
